Model Character Education Programs

National Schools of Character Program

Each year the Character Education Partnership (CEP) recognizes K-12 schools and districts which demonstrate outstanding character education initiatives. Although winners may differ in method, content, and scope, all have achieved positive gains in student behavior, school climate, and academic performance.

These "National Schools of Character" (along with their contact information) can be found on the CEP website. Click on the link below and then select a year and click on it.

Also, each year CEP publishes a book which provides detailed descriptions of the strategies each award winning school and district used so that others will have models from which to learn. This publication also features reproducible pages from the winners and highlights the semifinalists and the unique, replicable ideas of the Promising Practices citation winners. These publications range in costs from $10 to $19 depending on which year you select. To find them, click on the link below and then select one of the National Schools of Character books listed by year under the heading "Publications."

Now, you may be asking yourself, "How can I know which year to select?" or "How do I decide which school to call?" Good question. CEP does not yet provide descriptive profiles of the winners which would give you some basis for making these choices. When we called, they said they are planning to do that, but it will be awhile. So, for the time being, this is the best we can offer.
